 Not Sure What to Wear?

No Worries,  I am Here to Help!

Family pose on tree for an Austin, Texas family photographer.

WHAT TO WEAR GUIDE

I want you to look and feel your best self in whatever style suits you and your personality. Pick outfits that you know and love! If you feel good in what you're wearing that will show on camera (and vise-versa). However, here are a few pointers that are handy to keep in mind when choosing and coordinating you and your family's wardrobing:

"Be-YOU-tiful" is Best When Choosing What to Wear!

  •  It is ideal to wear items that are coordinated with an appealing color palette. Some safe options that are always a winning combination are neutrals, browns, navy, whites, and creams.
  • Black can sometimes be harsh, so I often suggest a deep grey over black.
  • Be mindful of harsh contrasts. For example, if your family is wearing cream and you are wearing black you are going to be the first thing the eye will see and you will stand out.
  • Solid color clothing items are usually a safe bet and help the focus to be on you and your face.
  • Prints can be tricky but they can be done! I suggest choosing prints and patterns that are in the same color pallet and play well together. It's often nice if you mix in a few solids to break up any busying prints.
  • Avoid any large distracting logos.
  • If we are shooting outdoors in summer, keep in mind we are in Texas which usually means H-E-A-T. If you are a sweaty person (like me!) then I suggest taking that into consideration when choosing your wardrobe. Try choosing items that will camouflage any sweat stains (this is where prints can actually come in handy).
  • Consider glasses glare. If you happen to have non-glare glasses please bring those or consider wearing contacts if that's an option.
  • Plan on arriving in the clothing that you will be shooting in. However, if your clothing is prone to wrinkle please change on site if possible. Keep in mind that some locations may or may not have a changing area.
  • Be considerate of where we will be shooting when making your footwear decisions. Oftentimes we might be at a park or a field with unstable ground which might make stilettos a challenge.
  • Ladies, I suggest bringing items needed for makeup touch-ups, particularly lipstick and powder.

And remember,...
